Kayaking Trips in Baja

Islands Sea Kayaking Overview:
Islands Sea Kayaking

These trips offer what few people have seen firsthand, the extraordinary desert islands that populate the Sea of Cortez - remote islands rich with rare indigenous flora and fauna. The trip offers the opportunity to snorkel with curious and playful sea lions, paddle through emerald green grottoes opening onto cavernous pink amphitheatres, and into mangrove-lined estuaries where a wide variety of rachis seabirds nest. Hiking and kayaking on and around these island gems is pure freedom and joy.

The advantage here is that we'll have the 30' support boat Pez Sapo (Whale Shark) to quickly transport us to each of the islands we visit. The boat carries the kayaks, camping equipment, personal gear, and the makings for delicious meals and cold beverages. Your trip leaders will paddle with you sharing their knowledge of the natural history and take you hiking and snorkeling. Our crew handles camp set-up (including the volleyball net) and prepares all the meals.

This trip offers another advantage of access to various areas without long paddles to reach the various islands.  The trips are 10 days long starting in La Paz and finishing in Loreto.  The season is Mid-March through April and October through November.  Group size is 16 participants.

Price: $1350.00 per person

Magdalena Bay Whale Watching Sea Kayaking Overview:

The exclusive waterfront accommodations in cabin tents and close proximity to the whale viewing area in Magdalena Bay make this trip a thrilling experience. There's just nothing quite like getting up close and personal with these gentle giants especially when you can hear them "spout" right outside your front door! Sheltered by a low barrier island, the waters of Magdalena Bay provide a perfect and peaceful winter home to hundreds of California Gray Whales. These magnificient creatures allow us to watch them roll, breach, "spyhop" and tend to their young, an experience both exhilarating and humbling. Early in the season you may be lucky enough to see them courting and breeding, an awesome display of power. Late in the season you will likely see the cows escort the calves out into the ocean for "sea trials" and return to the safety of the bay each afternoon.

Whale watching is the primary activity yet you will find plenty of opportunities for hiking in the dunes, kayaking and combing the wild and undeveloped Pacific beach as well. Watch for herons, egrets and ibis while you paddle your kayak through the mangroves and peaceful waters of the bay.  Our camp is situated on a secluded beach and equipped with every amenity from over-sized wall tents to solar heated showers and dining tent.

It's difficult to conjure up a more unique place than Magdalena Bay - a complex and captivating environment characterized by endlessly shifting Aeolian sand dunes, brilliantly  blooming desert flora, twisting mangrove-lined estuaries and, most magnificent of all, the California Gray Whales. One visit to this protected beach environment and your will understand why the whales travel 5,000 miles to this winter retreat and bre eding grounds.
